The School Library service is situated in the Central Library of the Wellgate and supports schools and teachers by providing loans of resources, advice, resource lists, fast access to public library lending and reference resources, browsing facilities and much much more.  The Service is funded by the Education Department and is for the use of all Local Authority Education establishments.

Currently we provide loans of resources covering all topics.  These can include books, DVDs, maps, charts, artefacts, models, audio, puppets, games, science kits and packs, story sacks, ideas and support.  Resources are selected to suit individual teachers' needs and are loaned for  to 10 weeks.  On the whole they are not pre-packed.

For Nursery/Infant classes we have a large selection of picture books including big books and puppet packs.  We also store a number of Active Learning Fairy Tale boxes.

WE have a large number of Active Learning boxes of pre-packed resources for various age groups.

To support Read Write Inc, we are developing collections of stories for story time and books which link with the programme.

Whilst we are funded by the Education Department, we are part of Leisure & Culture and the Public Library Service.  We can offer schools fast access to stock and information held in Local Community Libraries and Central Library's Lending and Reference departments.

Although the School Library Service is not open to the public, teachers and education staff can visit and select their own resources.  It is always beneficial to phone or email in advance.
